NEW PRODUCTSNew C Series Knuckleboom Loaders The new C Series knuckleboom loaders from Caterpillar Forest Products feature fuel-efficient power systems, upgraded hydraulics, and significantly more lift at full reach than previous models. The line includes the Cat™ 579C and Prentice™ 2484C loaders, best for big wood, clear cutting, and severe delimbing applications, and the Cat 559C and Prentice 2384C loaders, ideal for working in pine, pulpwood, and thinning. In controlled lab tests, the 559C was 22% more productive than the 559B burning the same amount of fuel. The 579C and 2484C loaders lift 35% more at full reach, and the 559C and 2384C lift 25% more at full reach, compared to the previous models. www.cat.com, www.prenticeforestry.com
CASE Construction Equipment introduced the new Tier 4 interim CX130C and CX160C excavators to its C Series product line, offering customers fuel economy increases of up to 8% and 5%, respectively, versus previous B Series models; resulting in increased productivity, along with lower overall owning and operating costs facilitated through easier maintenance. Both the CX130C and CX160C excavators have been designed for easier transport and both achieve 100/124 net HP using Tier 4 Interim-certified cooled exhaust gas recirculation (CEGR) technology that burns cleaner while delivering superior horsepower. www.cnh.com
New DAYLube high performance grease uses nanoceramic particles that act as sub-microscopic ball bearings to provide continuous lubrication to steel surfaces found on service and delivery trucks and trailers, commercial vehicles, and fleets of all sizes. With a much lower coefficient of friction at all temperatures than traditional PTFE greases, chemically inert DAYLube is also environmentally friendly. It maintains its viscosity across the full temperature range and does not soften or run out. After 100,000 production strokes, it shows no evidence of breaking down. DAYLube operates in temperature ranges from -40°F to 800°F, and the nanoceramic particles remain intact to 2500°F. It survived the ASTME 4-ball weld test with no weld and minimal damage to all ball bearings. www.daytonprogress.com
Fecon Inc. introduces the new FMA8039 Hydraulic Powered Milling Attachment rated at 260-550 HP, to process soil, stumps, and roots up to 20” below grade. A massive weight of approximately 11,000 lbs. (depending on options) keeps the attachment engaged as carbide tools cut through an 80” wide path of material. The 8039 is ideally suited for treating land already cleared of standing vegetation, often through logging, or traditional land clearing methods. A 39” x 80” large diameter rotor has an innovative structural design and abrasion resistant steel for durability and performance across a wide range of soil conditions. 64 carbide cutting tools provide a balance of performance, wear life, and impact strength in sub-soil applications. Also, dual hydraulic motors deliver power to the belt-over-gear box driveline. www.fecon.com
John Deere’s 900K-Series tracked feller bunchers and 900KH-Series tracked harvesters can take on even more of the forest with the introduction of an updated boom structure and cooling system for all models. Also, the Rapid Cycle System (RCS) is now standard on the 900K-Series tracked feller bunchers, making boom operation faster and simpler. The new boom structure is designed to maximize logger productivity. With an additional foot of maximum reach and two feet of additional minimum reach, the feller buncher can cover 32% more area. These improvements allow the felling head to tuck tighter to the machine to improve maneuverability in close quarters, as well as reach stems farther away. Similarly, the new tracked harvester boom structure has an improved cutting swath of 1 foot 3 inches, with nearly 1 foot of additional maximum reach. www.JohnDeere.com
The new LG5057T grapple has a 5-inch close (or minimum opening) and a 57” maximum opening as well as an all-new tapered tong profile. The grapple was designed to improve loader performance and productivity in sorting applications. The most noticeable feature is the tapered tongs, which significantly improve the ability to efficiently and quickly pick logs out of a pile. The new arm profile is also more rounded at the tips allowing the logs to roll up into the grapple easily. This increases the holding capacity of the grapple when gathering numerous smaller diameter logs. The LG5057T is equipped with cylinder guards to protect the rods from truck stakes and other hazards.
