Wood/Rock Separator Cleans Log Yard Waste
The wood/rock separator, manufactured by Construction Equipment Co of Portland, Oregon, takes log yard waste straight off the ground and separates it into four piles of usable material: sawdust and dirt, rocks, clean hog fuel and oversize wood. Capable of working year round in the Canadian lumber industry, the wood/rock separator helps meet the demand for clean hog fuel and puts a value on yard waste, the company says. Tyalta Industries Inc of Crossfield, Alberta is the dealer for the units in Western Canada. One unit has been installed at Millar Western’s Whitecourt, Alberta mill and another is soon to be in use in the Grande Prairie area, according to the company. Reader Service Card #271

Cat’s New High Performance Forest Machine
The 322C Forest Machine from Caterpillar is a swing machine offering high performance engine and hydraulics, purpose-built forestry structures, an ergonomic operator cab and easy maintenance, the company says. The versatile machine can be configured as a log loader, delimber or roadbuilder. Based on the new 322C hydraulic excavator technology, the 322C FM offers faster implement speeds and stronger pivot turns, the company says, with eight per cent more horsepower and eight per cent more hydraulic flow. Powered by a 162-hp Cat 3126TA six-cylinder diesel engine, the 322C FM has hydraulic cross-sensing, controlling both hydraulic pumps to use 100 per cent of available power in all conditions. Hydraulic cylinder snubbers, located at the rod end of the boom cylinders and at both ends of the stick cylinders, cushion shocks and increase cylinder life. The reinforced body and log-loading front linkage are purpose built. Front-end linkages include heel-type loader arrangements to fit a wide variety of log handling and loading applications. Link-Belt Adds 460 LX to New Series
Link-Belt has added the 460 LX excavator to its LX Series of machines. Available in two different undercarriage configurations—the standard fixed lower or with expandable/retractable side frames, the standard 460 LX has an operating weight of 101,000 lbs and features a 316-hp Isuzu AA-6SD1QXB engine. Configured with a 22’11” boom, the machine has four available arm lengths of 8’4”, 11’1”, 13’1” and 15’11”. When equipped with an expandable/retractable lower, the machine weighs 104,307 lbs and offers a 5.5” wider gauge for increased lift capacity. The Inte-LX computer control system monitors hydraulic output and pressures and regulates engine performance for the maximum balance between speed, power and fuel efficiency. Four selectable work modes match machine output to the job at hand, while Auto-Mode assures the best combination of speed and power when the operator is focussed on the work application.
