GN Roy
Two circular saw head models are available from GN Roy, the 2456-B
and
the 2252-C. The 2456-B has a greater cut depth of 24” through a 40”
opening, a greater holding capacity of 5.06 square feet and 280 degree
tilt (with planetary gear). The planetary gear is built with a holding
bearing that is completely separate from the planetary and supports the
head’s weight. With an operating pressure of 2,800 lbs, the 6,400-lb
head has a saw blade 56” in diameter. The 2252-C offers great access to
the saw motor, easy access to arms, accumulator cylinders and the
hydraulic system, a 22” cut depth and a holding capacity of 4.28 square
feet. The clamp design makes classification of wood easier, the company
says. Seals are made of polymyte and are resistant to heat, cold and
high pressure. Reader Service Card #164

Lako Oy/Premio
The seven models in the Premio line are suitable for first commercial thinning
to large scale forest operations and can be attached to almost any carrier
including excavator, purpose- built or modified forest machine. The 850 Premio
has been designed for harvesting and processing large decked stems and requires
a minimum carrier size of 25 tons. Designed for clear felling and tree length
operations, the 950 Premio is the largest of the line and requires a 30-ton
excavator. The smaller machines, the 450 Premio, 550 Premio, 650 Premio and 750
Premio require carriers in the 10- to 30-ton range. The machines have cutting
capacities from 21" to 38". From the 650 Premio up, the heads can be equipped
with a high-cutting capacity top saw, for superior processing and delimbing of
crooked stems. Modifiable Premio heads can be constructed as fourwheel- driven
when the rear knives are replaced with an additional pair of feed rollers.
Four-wheel drive provides more efficiency in feeding, delimbing heavily branched
stems or debarking eucalyptus. The measuring and control systems and software
use the latest technology to increase the heads’ productivity. All hydraulic
flow from the carrier to the head can be set and adjusted by computer. Other
features include accurate measurement, modular construction, four-wire Motomit,
Epec or Mevio PC systems, low impact ECO-wheels and versatile scaling features.

Log Max
Pro-Max, a service provider for Log Max harvester/processors, presents
its Log Mate IT computer system with four wires and the latest
slice-by-slice technology. Soon to be introduced is the new 1200 HD,
designed for big wood applications. The 1200 HD is built to outperform
the largest harvester/processors on the market, the company says, with
all the benefits of Log Max, including low flow requirement, stronger
frame design, proven rubber wheels, lighter weight and hefty pulling
force for the ultimate coastal and hardwood processor. Pro-Max offers
four models of Log Max harvesting heads with patented positioning,
controlled by the upper knife sensor, to minimize friction losses and
maximize pulling force. The feed wheel motors’ variable displacement
increase delimbing and pulling power as required, while four moveable
cast steel delimbing knives, with extra wide cutting surfaces, handle
thick limbs. The 9000 is a 3,995-lb head with a cutting diameter of 27”
and a feed force of 8,787 lbs, while the 7000 weighs 3,595 lbs and has a
cutting capacity of 25”. The 1,881-lb 5000 has a cutting diameter of
22”, while the smallest head in the series, the 1,155-lb 3000, has a

Ponsse
Ponsse harvesting heads offer reliability, efficiency, easy servicing
and accurate measurements. The H60 is a mid-size head that handles stems
to 25.6” in diameter and can be fitted with two to four
hydraulically-operated delimbing knives and one stationary knife, while
the H60e has three to five hydraulically operated delimbing knives and
one stationary. The H60 heads feature the Ponsse Opti 4G measuring and

Quadco
Quadco’s three harvester/processor heads include the 22” to 24” capacity
5600, the 24” capacity 6000 and the 30” capacity 7500. Top saws are
standard on all models and the main saw can be a disc or bar and chain.
The 7500 has two-speed motors for high torque in heavy delimbing and
high speed in lighter conditions. A unique processor mount yoke provides
attachment control for decking and the head can pivot seven degrees
side-to-side to reduce fibre damage. The 6000 and 7500 feature modular
construction with three boom mounts, three butt saws and two feed roll
types to choose from. An independent hydraulically controlled
length-measuring wheel and in-cylinder diameter reading achieve accurate
log measuring. The self-adjusting, proportional-pressure soft clamp
system, based on tree diameter, minimizes friction and maximizes feed
speed, the company says. Other features include a twin-motor rotator
with a 100,000-lb capacity sealed bearing, a harvester-style tilt frame
with 3 1/2” cushioned cylinders and standard bottom delimbing arms. The
5600 can handle stems up to 22” with the standard slide-out disc and up
to 24” with the optional swing-out disc (called the 5660), borrowed from
the 6000 model. Its frame structure and delimbing arms are built to
handle heavy limbs and hardwoods. The accumulator arms, solid mount and
measuring wheel are designed for multi-stemming, improving operations in
small diameter timber stands, as well as for roadside processing.
