Cormier and EDS Offer RMAP Software
Forest inventory contractors R & B Cormier Inc of Sault Ste Marie,
Ontario, in association with the information technology firm EDS Canada,
Geomatics Division, have developed a new software system that will
substantially reduce the cost of operational forest resource inventories,
updates and timber cruising, the company says. The Resource Mapping and
Photogrammetry (RMAP) system is a GIS software and hardware interface
system that allows trained aerial photo interpreters and technicians to
automate and digitize aerial photography and satellite image prints while
they are interpreting forest conditions in either stereo or mono. RMAP
increases the efficiency and accuracy of forest inventories by having both
the photo interpretation and forest cover map automation tasks performed
simultaneously by one person.

Inspired Designer associates, places color-coaded marks on studs to
provide critical navigation points for electricians, Plumber's,
carpenters, HVAC and home technology tradesmen. Other benefits include
reducing repetitive motion and increased accuracy of device placements.
Available through licensing program, the pre- marked stud system can help

HeatWave Solves Hemlock Drying Problem
HeatWave's new Q-Sift manufacturing process and Q-Sift Re-Dry Kiln
together eliminate wet lumber associated with current hemlock drying
processes. Q-Sift substantially reduces product degrade due to over- and
under-drying, increases overall grade recovery and annual kiln capacity
and reduces conventional drying times, green target size and drying energy
costs. The process works by modifying conventional kiln schedules to focus
on optimal grade recovery instead of wet reduction. The wet lumber
generated is moisture sorted, solid stacked and rapidly re-dried using
HeatWave's E-field (energy field) technology. The line of kilns is
designed for use with large timbers, hard and softwoods, trim ends and
veneers and is volatile organic compound (VOC) emission-free, the company
says.

New Buncher and Forwarder from
Tigercat
Tigercat recently introduced its 18-tonne class 1018 extreme-duty forwarder
at the Elmia Wood show earlier this year. Designed from the ground up, the
1018 features a Scania turbo diesel engine, a high-capacity cross-flow
cooling system, heavy-duty frame, pins and cylinders, a cast centre
section with tapered roller bearings in oscillation and articulation
joints and a revolutionary 270-degree rotating cab for increased
visibility when travelling and loading.
Tigercat's new 724D feller buncher is built for high production final fell
operations with the power and stability to operate in rough terrain, the
company says. Major enhancements of the 724 include increased power and a
unique cross-flow cooling system. A standard Cummins 6CT8.3 engine
delivering 215 hp, a heavy duty front chassis and boom system and a 1400
series John Deere front axle for large timber applications are among its

Komatsu Unveils Tough Tool Carrier
The performance-driven WA180PT-3MC Avance Plus tool carrier from
Komatsu Canada is designed for rugged use in the road building, landscape,
home construction and utility markets and has a variety of optional
attachments including construction forks, material handling arms, side
dump buckets, rotary brooms, four-in-one buckets, snow plows and logging

Baffle Inserts Assist Fish Migration
The Wildstone fish baffle insert ensures safe passage of fish through
existing metal pipes, allowing fish to move through previously impassable
culverts. The baffle inserts, made available by Atlantic Industries Ltd
through a licensing agreement with Wildstone Engineering Ltd, may be
inserted into pipes with diameters equal to or greater than 800 mm and can
be easily installed by two persons without disturbance to the stream. The
economical inserts do not compromise galvanizing in existing pipes and
allow fish to access historical fish habitat, allowing repopulation of
depleted fish reserves.

New Global Specs for Petro-Can's Duron
XL
Petro-Canada has added the new global DHD-1 diesel engine performance
