May 2006 - The Logging and Sawmilling Journal
Top 10 BC Interior contractors
Logging & Sawmilling Journal is pleased to once again present the Top 10 BC Interior logging contractors, based on logging volume. Never has the BC Interior witnessed the unusual logging environment it is seeing now, where the location and volume of log harvesting is largely being dictated by the mountain pine beetle epidemic. There is presently a lot of additional logging work available as Interior sawmills build extra production capacity to cope with higher volumes of beetle-killed wood. Since trees in the severely infested areas, particularly around Quesnel and Williams Lake, have a relatively short shelf life, there is a lot of pressure on loggers to harvest these areas as quickly as possible. BC Interior loggers have a critical role to play in controlling the mountain pine beetle epidemic from spreading, because, left unchecked, it could spread further east and infest Canada’s entire pine forest. Logging & Sawmilling Journal would like to acknowledge the assistance of the Central Interior Logging Association, the Interior Logging Association, Brandt Tractor (Prince George), Finning Canada (Prince George) and Terratech Equipment (Prince George) for their assistance in compiling this list. All contractors on this list were contacted and participation was voluntary. While we have done our best to identify those contractors that meet the volume criteria, it is possible that we may have inadvertently missed someone. If you know of someone who should be on the next list, please contact our office at (604) 990-9970.
