Gemofor
The Gemowrap automatic wrapping machine from Gemofor allows bundles of lumber to be wrapped quickly and efficiently on five sides. Gemowrap offers protection against weather and transportation hazards with easy-touse technology and keeps wood mould- and mildew-free. Bundles can be labelled with company logos and colours and the system has the flexibility to adapt to various mill operations. The waterproof wrapping paper will not sustain damage during forklifting and provides protection during outdoor storage. The system can wrap an eight-foot bundle in only 60 seconds, the company says, and uses standard, recyclable protective paper on rolls which are up to 45 per cent less expensive. Adaptable to different bundle lengths from four to 20 feet and longer, the wrapper has a ratio of 110 eight-foot bundles per 1,500 feet of rolled paper. The polymer staples are adaptable to wood fibre, allowing lumber to be sawed or planed without damaging blades. Circle Reader Service Card # 640

Samuel Strapping Systems
Samuel Strapping Systems has re-designed its lumber and panel strapping machine and the result is the new SLP25. Fabricated in modules, it allows easy installation of optional equipment such as dunnage feeders, top and bottom corner protectors and powered reaction roller for short packages. The SLP25 has a new hydraulic system featuring a smaller drive motor, hydraulic pump and reservoir. With less heat build-up, 25,000 pounds of top compression is achieved. The SLP25 can be ordered with a choice of strapping heads, including the G9 steel hydraulic seal-less, the M100 steel hydraulic sealless, the VS11 steel electric seal-less and the VK30 electric polyester head. Strapex
Strapex (Canada) Corp provides solutions for both steel and polyester strapping for board stacks of varying types and sizes. Strapping options include bottom runners, edge protectors and top protection for boards. Polyester strapping is a cost-effective alternative to steel and is AAR approved. Fully automated systems are available for either longitudinal or traverse strapping. New hand tool battery technology for use on polyester strap provides high-tension capacity with proven friction weld seal and the latest battery technology, the company says. In addition to plastic strap and equipment is a full range of high quality Orgapack tools and automatic systems for both plastic and steel strap. In Europe, Orgapack has a reputation as being on the leading edge in panel board strapping technology and is backed by a full range of standard equipment specifically designed for automatic panel strapping applications, the company says. Strapex, an ISO 9001 certified company, has also expanded their product line to include a full complement of Delta steel strap. The company offers local technical sales and support to the panel board industry. Circle Reader Service Card # 642

Signode Packaging Systems
High-Strength Tenax polyester strapping from Signode Canada's industrial packaging division provides lumber and panel manufacturers with the strength properties of steel and the performance advantages of plastic, the company says. The product improves load integrity, appearance and safety while providing excellent elongation and recovery properties, enabling straps to stay tight on lumber loads that expand during pressure treating and panel loads that shrink and settle after cooling. It also yields high break strengths enabling it to absorb the shock of rail car shipments without breaking. The polyester strapping material reduces indentation at load corners, does not stain lumber loads when exposed to the elements and is safer to handle and easier to recycle and dispose of than steel strapping. Approved by the Association of American Railroads (AAR), 2040 High-Strength Tenax can be used as a substitute for steel strapping up to and including 3/4" by 0.035". The MHT-MP44 compression strapping machine features a modular design that is not sensitive to load flow direction. Many components, such as the batten feeder and strap dispenser, can be attached to either side of the machine for flexible operation. It produces tight, stable packages with high-retained tension to withstand vibration during rough handling and shipping. Sequential top and side compression, combined with a floating head mount, eliminates voids to provide a more secure package. Circle Reader Service Card # 643

Del-Tech Industries Inc

Various roll configurations are available to suit individual requirements, including two- to 12-roll versions and custom widths. Paper can be loaded in seconds and no inner core or spindle is required. The unit comes complete with paper storage. Variable speed hydraulic and frequency drive models are available. The dispensers are shipped pre-wired, fully assembled and tested with integral electronic controls. Circle Reader Service Card # 644

Canadian Willamette Industries
The Precision Technologies division of Canadian Willamette Industries Inc (CWI) offers a stand-alone, automated self-cleaning stencil system that features a 1/4" thick stencil plate for rigidity, individually- controlled spray guns for reducing waste and a water wash chamber for automatic self-cleaning. Its fully automated spray booth application systems are designed for optimum application efficiency for cleaner, cost-effective coating operation with airflow technology that provides maximum transfer and superior coating containment. CWI provides a variety of wood coatings, sealers, inks and paints to cover, seal, identify and preserve wood products and unitized loads. Water-based products offer low VOC emissions and they are designed for use on lumber, plywood, hardwood, LVL, MDF, particleboard, moulding, laminated products and I-beams. CWI manufactures vivid, consistent and stable logo and load identification paints, while its sealer products are formulated to deeply penetrate wood for optimal product protection, reducing contamination from water absorption, swelling, checking, discolouration and mould. They can be applied by spray, brush or roller. Product lines include end and edge paints and sealers, Liquid Wrap water repellent wraps for weather and UV resistance, protective wax solutions for protecting kiln-dried lumber, as well as moisture indicators and disappearing inks for marking plywood, veneer and other wood products. Diacon Technologies Ltd
Mycostat P from Diacon Technologies is an easy-to-use anti-stain for the protection of freshly cut green lumber. Acting as an anti-fungal, Mycostat P prevents mould and stain on all soft and hardwood species and provides a fresh bright look to lumber for more than one year, the company says. The cost-competitive treatment, used at recommended concentrations, is non-corrosive to mild steel and has no discernible smell associated with its use. Diacon says Mycostat P is recognized as having the best environmental and worker safety profile and, combined with the company's on line retention program, makes for the most advanced quality assurance program in the lumber industry today. Mycostat P is applied with a customdesigned drip dry spray method, the Diacoater Spray System. Lumber is treated through a lineal or transverse spray box and comes out drip dry, protecting employees and the environment. Diacon Technologies designs, builds, installs and maintains its spray systems and equipment. Circle Reader Service Card #647

Innovative Systems and Designs
The automatic End Tagger system from Innovative Systems and Designs prints and attaches bar codes to the ends of each piece of lumber or board. Operated by one person, the End Tagger is as simple to use as point and click and requires only a few minutes of on-site training. The system can be used in-line or stand-alone. Most packs of lumber can be tagged in less than two minutes with accurate and neat tag placement, the company says. The staple gun is capable of holding more than 300 staples, reducing reloading time. On the freestanding model, the pack is placed on the infeed bed with chains hidden below the deck to prevent contact with the forklift. The bump gate and lift chains are raised, the lumber is set into position and the appropriate characteristics for the labels are programmed. The operating head then moves into position and prints and staples the tags. The system can also use pre-printed tags. Circle Reader Service Card # 648
