Top BC Interior Logging Contractors
The high level of uncertainty within the BC Interior logging sector due to mill shutdowns and curtailments is resulting in challenging times for logging contractors, according to Rick Publicover, executive director of the Central Interior Logging Association (CILA).
Many changes are occurring within the logging community, as demonstrated by the high level of logging contractor consolidations, retirements, and individuals leaving the industry. However, Publicover is confident that once the industry weathers the current storm, the logging community will continue to be strong, based on the resilience it has shown in the past. The mountain pine beetle epidemic, and its impact on the forest resource, is of particular concern. But there are emerging opportunities to use that fibre, even as it agesparticularly as bio-energymeaning that it will still need to be harvested.
Below is a list of the largest BC Interior logging contractors by volume. While Logging & Sawmilling Journal attempts to prepare as accurate a list as possible, participation is voluntary. Therefore, it may not reflect all contractors active in the Interior. As many contractors as possible were contacted in putting together the list. Logging & Sawmilling Journal would like to express our thanks to the CILA, the Interior Logging Association, and the North West Logging Association for their assistance in preparing this list.
